CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING - HOT OPPORTUNITIES WITH FDR
We always seem to have a need for people on our board with specific skills.
We are open to volunteers to the Friends of the Dominican Republic Board of Directors. We are a happy group because our cause is wonderful: Continuing our service and connection to the Pueblo Dominicano.
* We have a conference call once per month
* We each have a committee assignment
* We raise money to support the work of DR volunteers and communities
* We manage this money - Program Support Fund and the Community Challenge Fund -- carefully
* We help DR RPCVs stay connected
* We plan our reunions every few years
* We cooperate with Fondo Quisqueya and Andy Hernandez Fund
* We generally have a good time and work hard at our cause
To add your work and wisdom to this effort, or to suggest someone else who could, please submit to our nomination process by emailing me at president@fotdr.org with
1. Your contact information: (name, email, phone, address)
2. Your interest in serving and special skills that may help move us forward
3. A brief summary of your Peace Corps experience in the DR (years/where/what)
4. Additional information, such as a resume, for developing a candidate profile to be published for the membership voting process.
We are especially in need of:
Enriching our Board with members with Peace Corps DR service from the 70s and on. Some of us are getting to be "geezers" and we want to make sure we have additional juventud to keep DR Friends moving ahead and responsive to our broad membership from over these 50 years. But, even if you consider yourself a "geezer" or "near-geezer", we will be glad for your nomination.
For those of you living in the Dominican Republic, we have a Dominican Friends Committee you could consider. Guy Baehr is our Chair and he is looking to strengthen the group whether former American or Dominican American PCV or staff. Contact Guy at guybaehr@gmail.com .
A Web Team Leader responsible for updating and building of information for our web site to keep it chock-full of useful info. We need someone who has a journalist's bent, and, of course, is a good writer and decent word processor, and is wiling to learn the web management program we use for our website. Someone who really knows web design would be of great help to our Web Master, Roger Weiss. If this is you, you could no doubt also help us with CyberNews (Jim Shrefler, editor), and better use of the Social Networks.
A person with skills in database and web management to learn to be our overall Webmaster. The master database is on the web site and people need assistance in utilizing access and data. Coordinate efforts on adding to and updating the web site.
"FDR Mail Room Coordinator" for our electronic and snail mail communications. Using our data base and other sources, you would help prepare email lists for each Cyber News, all postal mailings, and for our Invitee/RPCV Mentoring programs. This means working our Cyber News guy, (Jim Shrefler), our Mentoring Invitee Match guy (Larry Deutsch), and our Webmaster (Roger Weiss) depending on the mailing needed. You'll need some easily learned data base skills along with your computer skills. Someone who can work with our current set up and perhaps figure out a more efficient and accurate system for managing these processes would be a plus.
A generalist: Any RPCVDR or former PCDR Staff who can help in a general way to support our work and pitch in where needed.
We have three Board positions to fill and much sub committee work -- Some of the above can be done by someone willing to assume the role but who prefers not to be on the actual Board. Understudies are helpful for all board members.
